STATEMENT ON THE 6th STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS OF PRESIDENT RODRIGO ROA DUTERTE

STATEMENT ON THE 6th STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS OF PRESIDENT RODRIGO ROA DUTERTE

This 6th and final State of Nation Address (SONA) will be implausible to us and to the majority of the Filipino people. Painting for us a nation sailing smoothly to hide the hard facts about our unparalleled difficulties and miseries under his rule are conjectural claims bereft of facticity. The quality of life of the Filipino people has worsened and history will judge this dispensation as failure of the State to institute social justice and rejection of people’s yearning to live abundantly and peacefully. With this, we could no longer foresee a better future for this kind of governance. Its twilight days are hastening on!

LET US STAND AGAINST STATE REPRESSION AND UPHOLD HUMAN RIGHTS

The United Church of Christ in the Philippines is once again raising it prophetic voice in view of the recent cases of political repression of the Church workers. As Bishops of the Church, we are saddened and alarmed at the arrest and incarceration of Rev. Nathaniel Valiente from Bohol Conference and Pastor Benjie Gomez from District Conference of Northern Zamboanga. In 2019, Pastor Jimmy Teves and some church members from North Negros Conference were illegally arrested and detained, even until now. Aside from them Church Workers from South Bicol Conference, Pastor Dan San Andres was arrested and detained but recently released, while Pastor Daniel Balucio is still detention for trump-up charges.
